All the songs sound the same… March 5, 2017

Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.

What do people make of this? U2 are in a spot of difficulty over claims that Achtung Baby may sound a bit like another track written a year or two earlier by an English songwriter/musician Paul Rose. I’m no great fan of U2 (at least not after the second album) but a lot of the sounds out there in the late 80s and early 90s were being swirled around and reconfigured in different combinations so I can see how it could happen entirely unintentionally and its not difficult to be sympathetic to both parties in this respect.

That said, any favourite examples of songs that sound like other songs? Here’s some entertaining (kind of) ones…I’m kicking myself I didn’t pick up on Hope by REM’s similarity to Suzanne by Leonard Cohen.

Irony of ironies: the very last video in the linked Telegraph article is blocked “on copyright grounds”

Skank Bloc Bologna by Scritti Politti and Living Next Door to Alice by Smokie. (only a bit of the former, to be fair.)
Apropos of nothing, it’s Mark E. Smith’s 60th birthday today.
