Solidarity to replace AAA name? March 8, 2017

Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.

Meant to get to this earlier in the week. According to the SBP this weekend, AAA voted this last week to replace the AAA name (or ‘brand’ as it was put in the SBP) with Solidarity. The report suggested there was some dissension over this, but all AAA branches voted in favour according to AAA sources.

One question, how does this affect those AAA TDs already in situ, and what of the AAA-PBP name? Is that now Solidarity – PBP or Solidarity-People Before Profit (and what of the WSM?). I could be wrong but my impression is that in terms of how TDs are described in the Dáil the name of the formation they were elected to takes precedence which meant there were SP and AAA TDs simultaneously in the last Dáil.

Not sure if the AAA need rebranding … PBPAAA (AAAPBP) has a nice ring to it. Solidarity brings associations with Lech Walensa and so on.
On SP related naming matters noticed a search last week for “cross country labour alternative party” . … obviously looking for “Cross Community Labour Alternative”

Will Cross-Community Labour Alternative also be changed to Solidarity? Or could it be Solidarity(NI)? Or would that associate CCLA too closely with the 26-counties?

That brings up an interesting question – what cover name does the mothership currently go under?

A Socialist Party by any other name… 😉

AAA in Cork has a strong SP contingent but is by no means SP only. I assume it is the same elsewhere.

nice tone to it.

The process is straightforward enough. The electoral entity has its intended name change published in the Oireachtas Clár Oifiigiúl (or something of the sort), there is a chance for people to object, and if no sensible objections come in the change occurs. A bit different to the AAA and SP situation in the last Dáil, as both formations were registered parties.

What does WSM have to do with it?

I assume its due to the “Solidarity” in the Workers Solidarity Movement

Ah! I wouldn’t think that would be an issue? I wouldn’t even have thought of it tbh.

Nor had I until you asked 🙂
