Signs of Hope – A continuing series – Week 10, 2017 March 9, 2017

Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.

Gewerkschaftler suggested this recently:

I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.

Any contributions this week?

1. GW - March 9, 2017

I thought the international coordination of Women’s Day yesterday was definitely a sign of hope.

And the hope that the coming wave of feminism will be ‘a feminism for the 99% and not just for the 1%’, as someone put it.

And no sign of the ‘return to the national’ strategic error, quite the contrary.

2. EWI - March 9, 2017

A united Ireland seems more and more likely; the ‘good news’ is that this will finally allow moving past the sectarian headcount in the six counties to normal politics.

An Cathaoirleach - March 10, 2017

Two points, a) Is that a sign of hope?, b) A numerical reality check, http://sluggerotoole.com/2017/03/09/constitutional-recoupling-the-rise-in-the-nationalist-vote-in-context/

I love the way that same canard of ‘we need a new right wing party’ (but on the nationalist side) comes up in the comments too. And the characterisation of the SDLP as ‘socially liberal’?

WorldbyStorm - March 10, 2017

+1. A lot of delusion on that thread. I was fascinated by the point re a plurality of catholics which in the next decade will become a political plurality. One doesn’t have to be revanchist to feel this may be no bad thing particularly if sf can work positively with alliance and the gp , the flag issue indicated a willingness for alliance and sf to be quite positive

EWI - March 10, 2017

I think that positive engagement is both the right and the politically-astute thing to do. It’ll still drive the hate-Taigs crowd wild.

EWI - March 10, 2017

The Slugger site is unionist, so you know to expect lots of Newton Emerson-style soft trolling (and denial) from that quarter. The psychological Rubicon has been crossed.
