That other SBP poll this weekend. Brexit plans, an Election on foot of Kenny resigning as FG leader, his role in the future and a United Ireland March 27, 2017

Fascinating results from other questions – unrelated to party politics, asked in the SBP this weekend.

First up the public is dubious that the government has a plan for Brexit 68% to 29%. In fairness to the government it is difficult to know, given how unpredicatable that process is, whether any single plan will suffice. But it is reasonable to expect a good level of preparedness.

Second – the idea that there should be an election if Enda Kenny steps down as FG leader is supported by 49% as against 51% who disagree. That’s tight.

Third – the idea, first I heard of it, that Enda Kenny should, in the event of his stepping down as leader, become a sort of Brexit minister at large, is not supported by the public. 38% for, 60% against.

Finally… a united Ireland is the ‘best way to avoid a hard border between the ROI and NI’ is supported by 58% with 39% disagreeing.

I agree that the idea is indeed the ‘best way’. Whether it is a feasible way is a different matter. But isn’t it fascinating how much support there is for a UI – around that issue.

Fascinating results and fascinating times.

” Enda Kenny should, in the event of his stepping down as leader, become a sort of Brexit minister at large, is not supported by the public. 38% against, 60% in favour”

Am I missing something? that reads as if it was supported…

Yes, apologies, it’s the other way around. I’ve changed it above.
