No poll this weekend April 2, 2017Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.
At least none I can find. Which is, oddly, a relief. There’s too many of them and the idea of a poll as an ‘event’ is now long past. Or indeed as the source of something startling – thinking back across the last year or two those IT polls which had SF or whoever making significant gains have had little traction because there are other polls which show less variable findings. And that points to their impact being lesser as there are more of them.
I’ve long stopped regarding any poll as definitive – but I think the dynamics of the electoral situation are reasonably well mapped out by them. But to what point? Do they have anything more than (marginal) descriptive value?
And then there’s other aspects. The proliferation of polling companies must have brought the costs down somewhat but they’re presumably enormously expensive – and yet as we know the SBP for one carries one at least eight months of the year.
