Sunday Independent Stupid Statement of the Week May 14, 2017

A bit delayed this week. And a boring week to be honest as well.

Most people would agree in principle that taxpayers’ money should not be used to subsidise private gain. Yet, to a very great extent, that is what we do in Ireland when it comes to third level education.

Dan O’Brien wins hands down this week for the spectacular lack of awareness as to the importance of the transfer of public money to the private sector in modern capitalism. An economics expert whose faith in the market is so total, he misses the single most important actor within the modern economy. Shocking but not surprising.

Let me guess now… he obviously mean that firms that hire graduates should pay the state more tax for the education it provided to prepare their workers, right?

Have they not replaced Dan O’Brien with a computer programme yet?

There’s an opportunity there for someone who knows a bit about machine learning and natural language programming.

I wonder when the first fully algorithmic opinion columnist will be rolled out. Perhaps it already has and no one has told us?
