And the border? June 26, 2017

Just had a quick read of the Tory/DUP agreement and nowhere do I seem to see mention of the border. Not necessarily a good sign if so.

Already the Guardian reports irritation and more from Wales and Scotland over extra funds for NI. Clearly some unions are a bit more unionist than others.

The Tories had no choice but to do a deal or face an election very soon. The problem is that that extra billion for the North will become the billion that could fund this or that all over the rest of the UK and every time the Tories say there aren’t funds for something, that billion for the DUP will be thrown back in their faces.
No doubt too there will be some stupidity or scandals from members of The DUP which will now be magnified due to their association with the Tories.

“Nowhere do I see mention of the border”. Of course you don’t. It’s an invisible clause for an invisible border. I’ll get my coat.

Somebody told me a story today about asking his students to review Cage’s 4’33”- one student submitted a blank sheet of paper. He got – had to – an A+

Does anyone think the DUP might actually prefer a hard border as a way of copper-fastening partition, whatever the drawbacks?

No. They may be mad but they’re not stupid!

Are you certain, sonofstan? Like all parties with 290,000 voters, it is a coalition and Paisley Junior wants a hard border, so I would imagine they are divided on the issue,

I don’t think DUP voting farmers don’t want a hard border.

Sorry, I mean DUP farmers probbaly don’t want a hard border, despite their Unioinsim.

I second that comment. DUP have a core farmers vote. By my reckoning, this means they should tread very carefully on a hard border.
