Interesting straw in the wind in relation to the next election. Denis Naughten in the SBP, currently Minister for Climate Action, and independent ex-Fine Gael TD, notes that
…he [will be contesting the election] as an Independent rather than rejoining his former Fine Gael party.
Naughten is, whatever one thinks of his policy approach, a shrewd character and one has to suspect he has though long and hard about what is the best profile for him to adopt going into the election. To me this suggests that high-profile independents may well figure that their current situation is the best possible one. Or least worst!

Now that FF seems to be intent on ending the “arrangement”, I expect to hear a lot from all the government ministers and TDs. Everything from claims they delivered to public crises of conscience. Oh I agree that Naughten is one of the brighter sparks around. Not that relative brightness takes much in the cesspool of ignorance that is the Dail.
