My son asked me recently who Bryan Ferry was as he had been just added to the bill at some festival he’s off to. It’s funny how someone who would have been a household name for so many and indeed a band that were around for so long with so much success …. that the next generation hasn’t a clue about them.
That said my son then mocked me asking what I thought of The Longitude Line Up for this year. I looked and didn’t recognise any of the names listed to play at all!
Incidentally Ferry himself has played benefit gigs for The Pro Hunting lobby in the UK and has been a public supporter of the Tories.
Some great music though…..

They really are an incredibly interesting band, with at least two distinct phases – possibly more. I’ve got to admit I like both but perhaps with a slight preference for their more pop oriented phase from 77ish on through to 82. Manifesto, Flesh + Blood and Avalon are remarkable albums, even if the controls are set with steely precision towards AOR at the end. Now as for Ferry he’s another matter entirely. His reactionary stylings (and his son too) are a useful example of how one can like the group but not the individual.

Yeah, I was saddened by Kate Bush’s batting for Theresa May but much more saddened by her last two albums.

Incidentally, the ‘More Like This’ on the first link has Freddie Mercury, who I’m glad to imagine about to enjoy what I’d term the ‘Michael Collins revival effect’ in having a major movie come out about his life.
