Politics podcasts suggestions… March 12, 2018

Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.

Thanks to 6to5against for noting during the week that the NPR political podcast, out on a Thursday, is pretty good. And 6to5against asks…

Does any body listen to NPR podcasts much? I’ve been following the weekly ‘politics’ update – comes out on Thursday. Didnt expect much, but find them really excellent and they give a broader context and more detail than we usually get over here on Trump etc.
That brought be to ’embedded’ which offers a really good summary of the collusion / obstruction story.

Heartily recommend both.

And I’d love to hear of more recommendations for good podcasts. I feel there’s a treasure trove out there I’ve been neglecting.

I listen to a fair few, a couple of ones from Slate, BBC’s Analysis, the Guardian Brexit and Politcs one and Foreign Policy and Politico’s (never quite sure about that last, but I keep listening)

Any other suggestions?

NPR is the weekly podcast “of record” for the US. 538 has a weekly podcast and, like NPR, occasional ad hoc ones for bigger news events. Less “straight down the middle” but not uniquely skewed left or right.

Talking Politics from Cambridge University (international as well as, probably more often than, national) not bad either though can’t warm too much to David Runciman.

Novara Media. The one about jail is really amateurish but All The Best is pretty entertaining and the main one is pretty serious.

The Dig by Daniel Denvir, a podcast by Jacobin magazine. Also Doug Henwood’s excellent Behind the News podcast.

I also enjoyed Slow Burn from Slate. Basically reflections on the Nixon years, each episode focussing in on one aspect of the story. Great stuff for those of us vaguely recall the events without having really followed them at the time.

The first edition, ‘Martha’ is particularly good

I still like the Zero Books podcast though some of the time the obsession with freedom of speech etc issues (and getting Spiked contributors in) grates.
