Depressing to see this too… a report in the SBP that TK Maxx have been told to recognise Mandate by the Labour Court. But troublingly:
The Labour court recommendation notes that the company did not meet with the union, and that it did not attend the hearing in February.
Gerry Knight of Mandate told the SBP that this was an example for the ‘growing and creeping tendency of employers not to engage with the state’s industrial relations machinery’.
There’s worse:
As a consequence of not attending the hearing, the LC’s recommendation is not binding on TK Maxx.
How can that loophole be allowed to persist?
And as always, for those worried about the company’s financial situation – last year it paid a €20m dividend to its US parent company.

So, in other union news, Irish Water have decided that they now want to rip up the agreement (SLA outsourcing to LAs) that they signed to get the thing through without worker resistance. It was die to run until 2025, guaranteeing that workers could continue to be LA employees without change.
The union response has been utter cowardice, with pre-emptive complete surrender, to ‘preserve influence’ (a direct quote from one Nerney’s Court fucker). Words fail.

The ‘maintain influence’ line truly is Orwellian. If I understand correctly, its logic is this: ‘Let’s not use whatever power or influence we actually do have, and then agree to everything we disagree with so that we can pretend that we have a lot of influence, and then we can use that to influence things in the future….only not very important things because really we don’t have much influence….
