Smart meter logic… April 13, 2018

From a piece in the Observer recently:

The logic behind the smart meter revolution is that consumers can monitor their energy use and cut costs, although the government concedes that the average annual saving will be just £11 by 2020 rather than the £26 it originally forecast. Also, the £270 cost of installing each meter will be passed on through higher bills.

What is the logic of that?

The logic is that after about 20 years the consumer will be just about breaking even! A great deal.

Of course, as with all current digital technologies, we can expect the software and electronics in the meters to not become obsolete before then.
