International chaos June 11, 2018

It’s all good knockabout fun, the stuff at the G7, though one has to suspect that the rhetoric from the Trump administration actually betrays weakness rather than strength and that the economic outworking should they come to pass may well be much less fun. But be that as it may, given the ability of the Trump administration to walk away from agreed communiques at a moment’s notice one has to wonder what the DPRK makes of all this.

I’m confess that I’m somewhat conflicted about Trump.

Certainly the appalled way that liberals lament that their best of all possible institutions can’t do anything about him is wryly amusing.

Providing he doesn’t blow us up, this aggravating symptom of a rotting system is doing an excellent job of eroding US economic, military and cultural hegemony in double quick time. Which can’t be all bad.

But you have to set that against the real suffering he’s imposing on many, and that he’s fat-headed enough to press the button when he feels his comically fragile ego is sufficiently threatened.

I find my head spinning a little when I start to feel that the G6 are the ‘good guys’ holding the line against Trump.

Think First World War. One lot was no doubt the lesser evil, but not enough to justify supporting it (See also ‘sharks and jets’ ).

A little like when Northern teams dominated Gaelic football maybe?
