I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.

I see a WP person (with some weird imperial three-letter appellation to her name) up on FB complaining about her election poster being on one of these ‘traditional expressions of culture’, but she’s refusing to comment on all the KAT signs 🤔

I was watching the coverage of the 12th on the BBC last night. It’s fascinating. The north isn’t another world, it’s another planet :).
Saw some coverage too about the WP poster being given the place of honour on the bonfire. And the reference to the tla on her name, which is weird for sure.
And then the OO hall in Crumlin was vandalised. The vandals sprayed KAH on the door. A new tla on me but I think I can guess what the H stands for.
I don’t know what all this is doing in the Signs of Hope but there we go.

I always think of Bowie who refused such awards time and again – re the poster on the bonfire it does point up the sheer limits in terms of space in regard to some contexts for progress forward. And the reality that for some it goes right back to an essentialist and vicious view of the world. It’s one of my biggest criticisms of the OSF / WP strand – not that the attempt was made but that the constraints on the attempt being a success were simply disregarded.

There are Orange parades etc. in the south, but without the Prorestant supremacism and overt racism. The difference here is that they’ve had to move on from the seventeenth century, and not be molly-coddled by a state that panders to bigotry.

Yes. The BBC had cameras at the walk in Rossnowlagh last Saturday too. Looked all very serene and harmless. Few if any union flags on display.
I actually stumbled on the Black Preceptory (?) parade there in August some years back.
The coming UI will be an interesting place with all this cultural diversity.

The business of food delivery for the lazy is highly precarious, poorly paid and dangerous – cycle and scooter drivers have many accidents, mostly caused by car drivers, not to mention all the internal-combustion produced poisons breathed in on the job.
This is one area that is being unionised by smaller ‘start-up’ unions, often inspired by anarchist / syndicalist methods.
So, during the world cup on Sunday, workers in Paris for Uber Eats, Deliveroo and Foodora are going to strike, organised by the infectiously-name CLAP trades union. Just when profits will be highest for their exploiters.

It’s not, but meals-on-wheels is (in my direct experience as a one-time carer) nearly unpalatable stuff, and eating enjoyable food at least once a week is hugely important for combatting depression, a key danger for the bed-bound.

Got you – such services are necessary – I shouldn’t have referred to them as just for the ‘lazy’.

And furthermore – in keeping with the intent of this thread – after capitalism they will be delivered for free by workers who control their own schedules – while matching home-bounds peoples – needs, through coordination within the workers and carers councils.

I know that Trump is an aggravating symptom, to use the medical terminology, but home-made protest-banners – not the Trot mass-manufactured ones – in England give me a little flicker of hope for that part of the West-Eurasion Islands.
My favourites so far:
“Shitler go home!”
“Can’t build wall, hands too small!”
