Meanwhile, no election here yet? November 14, 2018

It strikes me the rolling events of Brexit are sucking any life out of the notion of an election this side of the Irish Sea. Indeed thinking about it it seems to me that the focus on the Presidential election was quite distinct from that on the Budget. It’s not that the latter was unimportant, but somehow this government is in a position where it’s largely expected to keep on going for a while – or perhaps after years of crisis people are stepping back a little. It’s an odd phenomenon because I know individual parties and candidates are keen to get back into the electoral fray (some of them anyhow).

Well some of us did predict the blocking effect of Brexit on other politics.

Why would FG go for an election? Surely the arrangement with FF suits them better than having an explicit coalition? Or have I missed something?

They’ve all pulled on the green jersey! And, at least on this issue, I have to say they’re wearing it rather well.

Also if a Brexit deal does go through that keeps the border open with minimal distruption to North-South trade, then FG know they’ll get a serious boost.

I think you’re right re FG getting a boost, FF putting Lisa Chambers as their Brexit Spokesperson hasn’t really worked as she is trying to find faults with the Governments position whilst at the same time donning the Green Jersey. I’ve also heard many comment on how good Coveney and Varadkar come out of this, When you compare the professionalism shown by them compared to their UK counterparts ……..
Neale Richmond is another that has come across well on this.
