Signs of Hope – A continuing series January 31, 2019

Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.

Gewerkschaftler suggested this recently:

I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.

Any contributions this week?

1. GW - January 31, 2019

Despite opposition from the EPP (of which FG is a part) the European Parliament voted for greater transparency of members funding and lobbying.

Ask a FG European election candidate about it, and while you’re at it ask them about their continuing support for Orbán.

I suspect FF’s group voted against transparency as well, but I’ve not been able to check that.

2. GW - January 31, 2019

The Übermenschen of capitalism convinced even fewer people of their charity-instead-of-redistribution agenda in Davos than last year.

No solutions to be found there.

It’s hard to imagine now given the weather we are having this week, but snowdrops have already sprung. Next month we can expect to see the crocus make an appearance. And by March the narcissus will be in bloom. Plus there are many bushes in bud at the moment. And the days are lengthening…

CL - February 1, 2019

‘planes regularly take off from Shannon to Camp Lemonier in Djibouti from where they launch special forces and drone strikes on Yemen as support to Saudi war crimes.’-Clare Daly

” bombing and other military activities by the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen is deliberately targeting food supplies and distribution in a bid to win the war by starving millions of civilians on the other side.”

Deserves its own column. I gather the WPI supports this

And the cousins in the CPI will probably line up here. http://www.pcp.pt/en/joint-appeal-2019-elections-european-parliament?fbclid=IwAR1_fobHAgTKixqQu0ypHZ-ElCV3Bi1PVC31pV8Sg1GqO6v_6wrM6kxUYqA
Though I think t hey might not like this paragraph. “Another Europe is possible, necessary and timelier than ever. Another Europe – a Europe that will serve the workers and peoples and their needs – can be born through a radical change in the foundations on which the EU was built. A radical change conceived and decided by the workers and the peoples of Europe.”
I think many who oppose Brexit without thinmking the EU is all sweetness and light would like this.

That list is a quite eclectic mix of the different strands of Stalinism.

It’s some list all right. The NCPB but not the CPB etc etc. WP but not CPI. THE PRCF, not the PCF. The CPPS, not the PCE And so on. All the ‘anti-revisionists’. Ah well.

WorldbyStorm - February 2, 2019

The second list is considerably better in tone and approach.

Left MEPs condemn EU support for coup attempt in Venezuela, albeit calling for ‘inclusive political dialogue that could ease the tensions in Venezuela and seek solutions for a political exit of the current and dangerous situation.’

Better that than nothing.

The call for talks echoes statements by Maduro.
