A couple of weeks ago, it was announced that An Garda Síochána will be participating in Dublin Pride for the first time.

Tonight, this was announcement was made.

We’ve moved a long way from the drag queens who went on a riot against police harassment in New York, Dorothy.

The GAA joins in this year.

An Garda Síochána joins in this year too.

Fianna Fáil joined in a few years ago.

All we’re missing at this stage from middle Ireland is the Catholic Church.

I spotted a (small) Presbyterian group taking part last year, so you never know.

Cool.

The journey on this political axis has been remarkable.

Let’s hope this cements itself culturally, enough to withstand the anti-LBGTQ+, anti-feminist, nationalist right, who will continue their assaults.

I’m a member of the GAA and I was on the march last year with the first-ever official HSE contingent. I’m told that this year that contingent will be much bigger, led by the National Ambulance Service band.
But the march itself? Taken over by corporate Ireland, multinational world.
