The exit poll polled sentiment on a United Ireland.

65% of voters polled have indicated they would vote in favour of a United Ireland if a referendum was held tomorrow. 19% would vote against the proposal, while 15% of respondents to the poll said they did not know or refused to answer the question.

Excluding undecided and non-voters, the findings suggest that 77% are in favour of a united Ireland with 23% against.

Be interesting to parse out the reasons for voting no.

There’s also some other troubling stats. For example:

On the issue of migration, 52% of voters agreed with the statement that “people are coming into Ireland illegally, staying here and freeloading off the State”.

Though.

But seven out of ten voters agree that on the whole immigration has benefited Irish society.

Still, that 3 out of 10 who disagree or don’t know…

That’s presumably just RoI polling on a UI.

The immigration sentiment is fairly healthy compared with many other parts of the EU.

“Be interesting to parse out the reasons for voting no.”

At a guess, it seems like too vague a question. Folks are maybe less driven by knee-jerk tribal instincts than in former times. What form of unity? Under what circumstances? Immediately or longer-term? The economic cost is often cited as a reason for resistance, maybe also the upheaval of absorbing three quarters of a million people who don’t support the state? Or maybe for altruistic reasons some think we should first sort out the HSE and Garda rather than asking northerners to downgrade. By the same token, a good argument for unity would be to bring abortion and marriage rights to the north.

Yep. I’d say I’d be a don’t know if asked that question. Like, what is meant by a United Ireland?
We’ve had this discussion on here before (:)!) . But, basically, spend a few years in a process of some sort; work out the details as best you can (and hope you can persuade the necessary people to engage); then, do the referendum with “This is what a UI would look like. Are you in favour, yes/no”.
