Global wealth: 1% own 48%;10% own 87%,Bottom 50% own less than 1%
Worldwide Growth of Inequality https://wp.me/pKzXa-1kO
90% are now not earning enough to save anything at all, especially to buy property and so build up wealth. The poor (that’s 90% of us) are getting poorer and the super-rich (0.1%) who rule the world are getting very much richer.

Yep.
Which play directly into the hands of the even further right from Fine Gael, who will present climate action as a plot against the ‘little people’.
You can’t have effective collective action against global heating in the context of neoliberal capitalism. All that system can do is send market ‘signals’ like regressive sales tax hikes. Which is of dubious effectiveness when there is no alternative to fossil fuel use, and hits the poor hardest.
In a genuine social democratic context (to say nothing of a democratic socialist one) the income and wealth of the rich would be subject to an eco-tax used to create the public transport infrastructure needed to allow the (especially rural) poor to live without a car or two.

Comrade Coates if amusing here on Mélenchon’s excursion into Christian theology, on foot of the splits in the party/movement.
“La partie, c’est moi!”.
Mélenchon live is always good value, if only for the world-champion shrugging.

“The biggest difficulty all revolutionary socialist projects face is pushing what are essentially insurrectionary politics in societies in which workers’ organisations have long been institutionalised, pacified and integrated into the smooth(ish) running of things. And where democratic habits of mind have been the common sense, at least as far as the UK goes, for well over a century.”
This strikes me as a robust analysis.

Yea – I don’t always agree with Phil (forgotten the last name) but that seemed pretty insightful. For instance:

Really interesting book on both the Border Campaign and also for the depiction of the life of the working masses of Dublin and rural Ireland.
