Signs of Hope – A continuing series June 20, 2019

Posted by WorldbyStorm in Uncategorized.

Gewerkschaftler suggested this recently:

I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.

Any contributions this week?

Well it happened – there’s now no rent increases allowed by city statute for 5 years in Berlin. No legislation yet passed but when it does go through it will be backdated in effect to last Tuesday.

Fine for each landlord who disobeys is to me 500,000 yoyos for each case.

This shows the power of a social movement of tenants when there is a red-green government in power to respond the the movement.

Whether this will take some of the wind out the sails from the campaign for bringing private rental accommodation into public and democratic ownership remains to be seen.

to me -> to be

Although I’m happy to take donations from the legal funds of rent-sharks. Or perhaps not, on consideration.

What rent sharks will do however, I’m convinced, is to go on maintenance strike in retaliation. I’ve already had to do one plumbing job myself when officially it’s covered by my rental agreement with the private equity shark.

Call them up and they say ‘we can’t get skilled plumbers for love nor money’. You could if you’d pay them the proper rate.

So public ownership is the only long-term solution.

Please don’t post up comments like this. No love for BJ here but not going to have something put up that is impossible to prove one way or another or seeks to give information that could cause hassle to people who are relatives or others – wbs.

Whether this is true or not this isn’t the place for it. I hate the Tories, always said it’s about the one constant in my political life but going after someone’s alleged relative isn’t good politics whatever their personal position or whether they’re ‘scummy’ or not. If a person hasn’t been elected or sought a public profile they’re off limits. Simple as. And as for people not being progressive at all, sheesh, open your eyes, most people you’ll interact with on a daily basis aren’t that progressive either. Think that makes them legitimate targets for doxxing and having their private details thrown around the internet by anonymous commenters?

By the way, you should check out the term sippenhaft.

WBS. In my view you should take down that comment from Jim. It is saying nasty things about someone who isn’t in public life. Anonymous, cowardly posts like that have no place on the CLR.

The popular confirmation of the defeat of the AKP in the Istanbul mayorship might be the turning point for Erdoğan’s rule.

And I discovered that a citizen of this great and historic city of 16m inhabitants is called and Istanbullu (not -li).

Yep. He whipped him out the ring second time around.
