Great to see this happening; hopefully some commentary on the reality of war armamemts makes it into the national consciousness (or even to Bray on the weekend). Good luck with publicity; the local rag (the Bray People) is an Indo Group publication.

I’d also be curious about “Trade Unionists Against War Shows”, as a cursory glance (ten minute google search) doesn’t bring up a social media footprint.

And there’s a Sukhoi 31 there too – which despite its looks is 1992 onwards vintage and testament to a very long rooted Soviet, later Russian, aerospace technological and arms sector. A fine craft.

Well it is an acrobatic trainer so no ostensible warlike capability above and beyond any aircraft really before it is fitted with weapons – but that’s a key distinction isn’t it? There’s a deeper argument about defense and offensive capabilities of course.

To wbs. Ah ok. Planes for learning how to fly as opposed to planes with weapons for learning how to kill. Except of course, that the killers have to learn how to fly first and then how to use the weapons to kill. But I get it, I think, people can be genuinely interested in the mechanics and magic of these machines without being in favour of their use as weapons of destruction.
To yc. Serious questions. Surely the poster says what it says. It’s not a protest, it’s a public meeting. As it says, “Warplanes that kill other people’s kids are not fun”. I know no more than what’s on the poster but my guess is that “Trade unionists Against Warshows” have no online presence because all they are are a bunch of folks who decided to organise this meeting to get people to think about this airshow and whether it’s all good, innocent fun. Folks who are members of trade unions, presumably.
I say fair play to them and good luck with the meeting and God’s blessing on the work. And muck the begrudgers and the nitpickers and the tangentialists.

I’m certainly not in favor of weapons of destruction and yet I think a state has a right to equip itself with a defensive capability – but it’s not the latter that interests me. When I see a fast jet it isn’t the destructive power that I like – it’s the engineering or design – the British V bombers etc were remarkable aircraft because they were remarkable aircraft not because some carried atom bombs – I think we ate on the same page on this pretty much. 🙂

Historical aircraft owned by museums or individuals are one thing. Having a promotional event for militarism in the present day is something else entirely (and has a long pedigree of nefarious use as propaganda).
