No surprise at all… August 10, 2019

I was a little puzzled by this report on RTÉ about a protest against anti-hate speech which wound up at Google’s offices in Dublin today, and apparently encountered another protest already there.

There was a brief confrontation after they arrived with approximately 40 demonstrators – some carrying Tricolours – staging an alternative protest in the same location. Members of the rival demonstration sang “You’ll never beat the Irish” and The Fields of Athenry. A line of gardaí kept the two sides apart.

But who could that second group be?

Ah, could there possibly be a connection with this, as reported on GCN? Could be!

Fair dues to the anti-hate speech protestors.

BTW, check out this line on the GCN report.

John Waters, the controversial Irish columnist and author, has also been seen attending the demonstration.

They have been protesting outside Google daily for the past few weeks. Have nipped down to see if they had any leaflets (they didn’t). A most unsavoury bunch, a few from the extremes of the Pro Life movement and some YouTube fascists.
Incidentally the security at all Google locations in that area stepped up a month or so ago.

Fascinating the way most of the current crop of anti-EU, anti-progressive, hard-right Irish “nationalists” have found common cause with the equally anti-EU, anti-progressive hard-right Irish “neo-unionists” who’d like to see Ireland assimilated back into some sort of commonwealth of the “British Isles”. The alt-right scene makes for some strange bedfellows.

+1. These guys singing the Fields of Athenry – it’s as if they’d roll over if an English Lord arrived
