Among the products we rely on the UK to provide are cereals, biscuits, tea bags and a variety of prepared foods.

That’s 75% of the staple diet going up / becoming scarce then. 🙂 😦

No – all home grown in Cork and environs. 🙂

Anyhow why should the comely maidens of Cork plucking the finest tips in the tea-fields of Knocknaskargh continue to supply tea to you Dubs until you do the decent thing and split the Dublin GAA into at least 3 parts?

At least the hit to the beef industry could be a chance to transform agriculture to a less climate-catastrophic path. 🙂

Grasping at straws here, because that would require decisive, imaginative, costly and controversial action from the Fx government. 😦

More food processing here would be a good thing for Irish farmers (and the economy). Incidentally, Dev and his ‘economic war’of the Thirties prepared us to some extent agaibst the previous cut-off from the UK (the subterranean British economic blockade in WWII to try to exert pressure on our independent foreign policy stance).

+1 Ive always felt that – that intentionally or not the state was reasonably well prepared come 39. And given how seriously Dev took the League of Nations etc in the 30s it is difficult not to think he realised things could be ropey in the years ahead. The caricature of him and others as being almost absurdly insular is just that – a caricature.
