Went to see Something Happens in Whelans over the Christmas, a great nights entertainment from a great band. Of course it was a nostalgia trip, the age profile was what you’d expect and I don’t think I’ve been as hot at a gig in years! They were one of a number of bands that I followed in the late 80’s, saw them live umpteen times, bought the singles and albums and hoped that they’d get the international success that never came.
They did record some brilliant songs “Hello, Hello, Hello, Hello (Petrol)” , “Parachute”, “Beach”, “Kill the roses”, “Forget Georgia” and so on. As ever their show had some cover versions including ‘Like a Rhinestone Cowboy’  and ‘What’s New Pussycat’ as a mashup of Hello Hello, Hello and I Will Follow.

I really liked these in the early 90s too, great live band, saw them a few times in the Olympia I think it must have been. Am I imagining it or didn’t Tom Dunne have a bad health scare there a year or two ago? BTW do you remember his earlier band The End? They had a very catchy time I’ve Got My Doubts About Jabouille ( might have misspelled that!).

I think I saw them live once. Their first album had some very good stuff on it. Was never quite so keen on the second. Their third was an odd one, sort of grunge influenced.

Don’t remember the End. Had some issues with his heart I think in 2018.

This is all I could find from The End.

Was a big fan of Something Happens back in the day. But never forgave Tom Dunne for using his radio show to lambaste the bin tax campaign.
