This Weekend I’ll Mostly Be Listening to… Songs about what “I want…” and about what others want or don’t want! March 14, 2020

What do I want? Health and happiness to all – particularly the former, the libertarian socialist millennium, albeit sooner than the next millennium… a reverse GFA (hat tip to ASF), better films (hat tip NFB) it’s a long list. And others want… well… as the Godfathers put it… Everything.

There’s so many songs that use the term ‘I want’ in their name, here’s just a selection.

I Want You (She’s So Heavy) – The Beatles

I Want You – Cabaret Voltaire

I Want to – Best Coast

I Want to Conquer the World – Bad Religion

I Want the Answers (Live) – Fleshtones

I Want to Take You Higher (Live 1969) – Sly and the Family Stone

I Want Everything – The Godfathers

Though John Cooper Clarke

I Don’t Want to be Nice

And there’s more, much more!

And meanwhile… some angst…

Why’d You Want Me – The Jesus and Mary Chain

What Do You Want From Me? – Monaco

All I Really Want to Do (Live 1965) – The Byrds

And on to the very clear…

Everybody Wants to Rule the World – Patti Smith

All I Want for Xmas (Is a Tascam 388) – Pond

Don’t Want Anything to Change – The Primitives

Whatever You Want – Status Quo

And probably the most truthful of all the ‘wanting’ songs…

We Want the Airwaves – The Ramones

And here’s Shonen Knife’s version of same:

And here’s Covenant… what do they want?

We Want Revolution

There’s one great ‘want’ song, but someone can add that in comments!
