The excitement is only… exciting, with a new LP leader elected today. Any thoughts on who that will be ahead of the news?

Any chance of writing in Jeremy Corbyn?
Speaking of what might have been, someone wrote recently that a mere 3,000 votes in a few constituencies would have been enough to get a Lab/SNP govt over the line in 2017.

What might have been, had it not been for the scabs.

With Covid-19, The Seanad Elections and other stuff it will be lucky to get on before the first break on the RTE news!

I’d say it will be either Alan Kelly or Aodhán Ó Riordáin.

Have a feeling Kelly will win. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

The few people I know involved with Labour all dislike Kelly to varying degrees and are backing O’Riordain. Suspect Kelly just isn’t popular enough.

Do you think it might be a inside/ outside the M50 thing?

My FFG insider friend tells me it will be an M50 thing. And that most of the membership is now outside the M50 so Kelly will win.
I still say it will be either him or the other fella though.

What time will they put us out of our (very sad) misery?

Did I tell yis about the time I was on an intercity bus? It turned out that in the seats behind me were two activists on their way to an event. One of them had been in the Labour Party, and her travel-mate brought the conversation around to the party. The questions were answered politely, but, I thought, not enthusiastically, which is hardly surprising given she was an ex-member. I can’t remember the specifics of most of it – it was mainly gossipy: was Emmet Stagg still influential? Was he still on the left? Who would be the main people on the left in the party now?

And then she asked what wing of the Labour Party Alan Kelly was in. There was a pause and then the answer: Alan Kelly is in the Alan Kelly wing of the Labour Party.

2000 members voted. The counting started at 2pm. It’s now 10.20pm. Ffs, what are they like?

Yeah, it is a weird one agree completely. You mentioned doing the envelopes back in our WP days @ I swear we’d be pretty damn quick doing 100s of them in an evening.

Heheh! Nice one ghypsybhoy. Still, be interesting to see how his leadership goes. Will there be an about turn on coalition?
