I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.

Channel 4 news suggests a vaccine already in production in Oxford has a 50% chance of beating COVID by Christmas. I know nothing about the science, but this is called ‘signs of hope’.
I do know irony though- wouldn’t it be typically English to make a spectacular mess of handling the crisis – and then produce a vaccine? The country of Shakespeare – and of Nigel Farage …

Well I read an article on the Oxford vaccine by a biomedical scientist recently following release of some trials on monkeys. The results did NOT look good. Early results in primates from a Chinese group using a more conventional approach look much better.
