There are no neutral spaces; neither entertainment nor sports forums are free from political slogans. One cannot even look to the Garda, or take public transport, without being exhorted to “get on board” with whatever hue of rainbow-mania happens to be the flavour of the day.
In his first week as Taoiseach Micheál Martin had to contend with the capacity of Irish politics to be dominated by relatively trivial distractions, like the old traffic violations of a newly appointed Minister, while his Government seeks to contend with profoundly important decisions arising from the Covid-19 pandemic.
“It must be clear to passengers that air travel is reasonably safe if appropriate protocols are followed, and that it is likewise manageable for public health,” the report states.
Despite concerns expressed over the past week about foreign travel, so far this route of transmission has had little impact on the official figures. The number of travel-related cases grew by six to 599 over the week and the number of imported cases by six to 391.
But from Melbourne a salutary warning…
“People were living as if we were Covid free,” said Ms O’Donnell.
And Sarah Kenny has a warning for those back home.
“We’re feeling over here that the same thing could happen again over in Ireland with the relaxation of restrictions. And it can happen so quick. A few days ago we sort of thought we were ok and boom there was a lockdown,” she added.

But the phrase in the letter that seems…offensively inaccurate.
“The intellectual freedom of cis white intellectuals has never been under threat en masse, especially when compared to how writers from marginalized groups have been treated for generations.”
I don’t know where to start….Spanish Inquisition, anybody?
This is what I hate about extremist identity politics – it splits people apart. Freedom is for white, black, cis and trans people, for everyone – it’s not a zero-sum game.
I seem to remember two cis white intellectuals had an idea about “workers of the world unite”, which would be worth reviving today.

Gene Kerrigan remains a pillar of good journalism in a very low quality newspaper, the Sunday Independent.
IT took months for Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Greens to cobble together a Government. It took days for them to turn it into a laughing stock.
When they haven’t been mugging one another, the politicians have been adding little extras to the goodies that these days go along with the job.
Hardly had the current Taoiseach appointed his Cabinet when the in-fighting began, and the backstabbing.
This went beyond the usual laments about which county, townland, village or street didn’t get its own minister.
It’s hard to believe that adults are involved — with some of them whinging openly about how the position they were given was not the one they wanted.
