The challenge of obtaining secular Relationship and Sexuality Education in Irish schools has been ongoing since 1995, when the teaching of RSE was first introduced to Irish schools. The main thrust for the introduction of the programme was a sharp rise in teenage pregnancies and the AIDS epidemic. [click for more]
Across the voting spectrum, discussions and documents about school sex education make so many parents sweat.

Irish Relationship and Sexuality Education should be secular and not controlled by Catholic bishops. Indeed and it should. For certain sure.
But let’s be a bit more bold. Irish schools should be secular and democratically run by the State and not controlled by any religious or other clique or interest group.
