Signs of Hope – A continuing series October 30, 2020

Gewerkschaftler suggested this recently:
I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.
Any contributions this week?

However this controversy pans out, the posts by EWI and Aonrud show clearly the ugly workings of the system. Well got!

Bolivian Election and Chilean Referendum were 2 rare close ones (with the usual sectarian downplays specially on Bolivia). Jacobin Mag would have their various Op pieces . Telesur the basic reporting

Bolivia specific , related to the MAS (Landslide election winning) movement .
There is a sort of radical Green major downplay (promoted by one Bolivian LASC member) than people can find for themselves . I dont trust the motives there as it involves a sort of class snobbery combined with strategic naivety imo . Of course damned complicated when looked into in detail . Tribune has maybe the most balanced shortish overview

As for Chile specifically a couple of the writers contribute a lot to Jacobin (a situation way too much to try to overview in a comment, but hopefully the long dark night of extreme neo-liberalism is coming to and end for them) . The english service is very limited, you have to try to translate the Spanish to get anything recent

An RTE poll asked how would Ireland vote .82% of Irish people would vote Biden and only 10% Trump. Surely a sign of hope (no matter what you think of Biden) that fascism has no traction here.I would hazard a guess Trump would fare much better on our neighbouring island.
