Is he? Though as a friend of mine noted a week or two back, he wasn’t much of a great winner either.

“Resurfaced video of Trump pardoning Carrots the turkey has gone viral, as the president refuses to concede losing to President-elect Joe Biden….
In 2018, when two turkeys named “Peas” and “Carrots” were vying for the presidential pardon, Trump revealed that Peas had won the vote in “a fair and open election” — and he called out Carrots for refusing to accept the results.”

Money talks…
“Mr Trump has also faced increasing pushback from US business leaders, including in a letter on Monday signed by Larry Fink of BlackRock, David Solomon of Goldman Sachs and more than 160 other executives. The letter, organised by the non-profit Partnership for New York City, warned that delays to the transition threatened the US response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Business Roundtable, a lobby group for many of the US’s largest companies, later welcomed the GSA announcement, saying it would give Mr Biden’s team “access to critical resources that are necessary to confront the pandemic, rebuild the US economy and address other pressing issues from day one.”

Really good article on the class/ethnicity factors in the election. Not cheerful reading though – just highlights the absolutely useless nature of the Democrats

This is something which made me cringe badly whenever I encountered liberal hand-wringing about a violent coup in the lead up to this election. A violent coup would almost certainly be very bad for business both of the big and the general variety so the ruling class was never going to allow that to happen (unless maybe it was very tight a la Bush vs. Gore).

Yeah, a violent coup was entirely implausible. For a start the US military would be deeply unlikely to participate in same. Trump has to some degree built loyalty in the DHS, but… nothing to the extent he could use that as an armed militia. A political coup still very unlikely, but Republicans have tiptoed closer to the line on this one. A closer result, smaller margins, not difficult to see in future elections the legacy of the events of the last couple of weeks being played out in various dismal ways.

Chomsky is in his 90s. For some reason that’s a huge surprise. Still as sharp as ever he was.
