‘Both sides’…

Too late to submit to the ‘Sunday Stupid Statement’ but Lucinda Creighton in the SBP while bemoaning the events in the last week in the US was quick to assert:

At both extremes of the political spectrum, groups and individuals have decided to reject the pillars of democracy – the police, the courts, and free and fair elections This is a phenomenon which has been enabled by politicians on both sides, with Democrats and Republicans turning a blind eye to violent extremist behaviour by their supporters.

Both sides – eh?

Many Democrats failed to condemn the violent actions by some Black Lives Matter and Antifa protesters over the summer months. Republicans stayed silent when right wing groups such as the Proud Boys engaged in violence and intimidation.Silence on both sides has denigrated American politics and demeaned both parties. Yet the silence of most Republican figures in relation to the words and actions of Donald Trump over the past few years has been most damaging of all. That complicity, more than anything, is what led to the attacks on Congress last week.

And:

Yet some good may come of it. Trump’s voters have supported him for many and varied reasons. Some fear the Democrats’ economic policy more than him, some fear the “progressive” agenda of the more radical members of the Democratic Party, some are traditional “law and order“ voters appalled by the BLM riots and ”defund the police“ campaigns.

Of course not a word about content or form. What were the protests associated with BLM about as distinct from those of the far-right? Where did BLM protests seek to disrupt democratic assemblies?
