This Weekend I’ll Mostly Be Listening to… The Stunning January 16, 2021

Over the Christmas, my record collection was investigated further by my son. One of the albums that impressed was “Paradise in the Picture House” from The Stunning. It’s a pretty good album with some stand out songs. Like the rest of Ireland I’ve seen them loads of times, probably the first time was in the SU in Maynooth in 1989 or so. Having Broken up in 1994 they reformed in 2003 and have been on the go since and are still a great live band (when we ever get back to going to live music I’m sure I’ll be seeing them again).

Great choice. They were really are/were a great live band. I saw then in the Powerhaus in London a few tines and it was always great fun. A band that you could dance to without knowing the songs, that kept the show going non stop and that put the audience first.

Brewing up a storm is a great song. When I saw IEL was doing this I was amazed to realise that the band hadn’t featured before.

They’re a fantastic band, especially live.

I saw them a couple of times at Midnight at the Olympia back in the early 90s, great live alright.

I remember liking the Stunning back in the day. Was on the Greek island of Ios in 92 or 93 with a girlfriend of the time and ended up bumping into a mate at that time who worked in Mother Records who was holidaying with his boyfriend. We all in turn bumped into the Wall brothers who the friend knew. Just remember having a great few nights with lovely lads. Steve’s not a bad actor either.

Managed somehow to knock email notifications off Word Press for a couple of weeks. Good to be back. 🙂

Great to see you back! Mother records! Ah the memories.

It’s always great to hear that people in music are actually sound, thanks for that.
