This is a useful addition to the Archive, Young Republican, issued by Fianna Éireann (Republican Youth Movement) – a part of Republican Sinn Féin. As noted in the Archive: Republican Sinn Féin was founded following the 1986 split in Sinn Féin and in opposition to the decision by the latter party to end abstention from the Dáil. It was led initially by Ruairí Ó Brádaigh, who was party president until 2009.
This document is of considerable interest covering a wide range of topics, from pickets in support of Political Status of Republican prisoners in Maghaberry. An interview with former hunger striker Brendan McLaughlin and former prisoner and RSF Ard Comhairle member Josephine Hayden. There are book reviews and articles on Na Fianna, as well as sections on Culture and revolution, Glasgow Celtic and also a piece penned by Anti Fascist Action. There are also pieces on Palestine and the ‘People’s War in the Philippines’.
A panel invites readers to join Na Fianna Éireann and states:
Provide colour parties for commemorations for Irelands fallen patriots. Help raise funds for Irish Republican prisoners and their dependents. Outdoor activity. Support the wider Republican Movement and campaign for a united 32 country Socialist Irish Republic. Learn you history, culture and the Irish language.
In a piece on ‘Comradeship in Na Fianna’ the point is made;
Comrade, is a word that is not used too much extent in these times. It is seen as a term used mostly by Communists. But it is a term, I would have no problem using to look upon other members of this movement as such. When you travel around to some of the most obscure of this beautiful coun- try of ours, with “the lads” and share tents at times, you tend to get an understanding of them and get to know about what makes them tick, not just as Republicans but also as people. You know what’s going on in their everyday life and as is usually the case, you become more than comrades, you become close friends
Interesting addition. Thanks for scanning and uploading.
