Another fascinating podcast. The detail and colour about those campaigns and what exercised people is amazing. Sure there’s opportunism and slighted pride in terms of people not getting the nod as candidates but you point to very real tensions in FF over the Constitution, and is that mention of Foynes on the Shannon I hear as well – giving the British an airbase there?

Yes, the idea that FF was a homogeneous unit until the arms crisis always struck me as odd. True also, as with any Party, going into Government for the first time especially will cause compromise of core policy which will lead people to leave. The fate of the candidates, no matter what their individual merits were also shows how important the party brand was.

+1 Well it really works as a window into that party. It’s a great collection of podcasts.
