With reports of their implosion, after many years of prolific production of material, this would be the final leaflet produced by The Spartacist League.

They’ve imploded? What happened? Surely one of the more exotic blooms on the further left across the years. Can you remember first endountering them? My first memory would be making a short cut across TCD to get to a bus stop and being accosted by someone selling their paper. That’d have to be mid 80s.

I was wondering that too. Something to do with this from a few years ago, maybe? Sounds like something of a bust up: https://www.icl-fi.org/english/esp/65/intro.html

“Through the course of struggle, it became clear that this adaptation to Great Power chauvinism had contaminated our struggle to reforge the Fourth International, as seen particularly in the arrogant belittling of comrades from oppressed countries.

“Since the counterrevolutionary destruction of the Soviet Union, the ICL has faced repeated struggles to maintain our revolutionary continuity against a series of opportunist leaderships.”

It reads a bit like divisions over how nationality, culture, ethnicity are addressed, with signs of a generational aspect too. I wonder is it effectively another case of some opposing “identity issues”?

I don’t know if that’s the source of the implosion IEL refers to though.

This would be funny were it not so serious…

It’s a classic of its kind.

Talking of Die Linke as this s(t)olid bit of orthodoxy does, the party leadership (specifically Janine Wissler) this week came out with the only clear call for a ‘solidaristic lockdown’ combined with compulsory vaccination against Covid19 that any of the German parties have dared so far. The others are all still dancing around the necessary. A lockdown until January would give the workers in the hospitals a chance to cope.

Two to five thousand deaths a week among the already infected are unfortunately already predestined over the next month due to the cowardice and willful ignorance of CDU/CSU/FDP/SPD and Greens over the last 10 weeks.

A lockdown should break that cycle and give time to get more vaccines in people’s arms.

The proposal came with a demand for removal of patents on vaccines and other medicines and a 90% replacement of lost wages during the lockdown.

Just been reading some of what Wissler had to say, good stuff, I’d like to see that sort of strident belief in social solidarity and scientific facts as evident here, sadly many seem to want to soft peddle on subjects like vaccination, surprisingly so in the case of one party who used to be at the more rational end of the spectrum.

https://www.urban75.net/forums/threads/whats-the-spartacist-league-up-to-these-days.247319/ Lots of good material on this thread especially in the last set of pages. I believe at least one regular from here may have participated. I especially enjoyed the spat between two former Sparts.

Not sure if you need to be registered or not to read it.
