Gewerkschaftler suggested this recently:

I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.

Any contributions this week?

Well I’m going to lead this off with the bold statement that the omicron variant doesn’t seem to be too vicious in terms of severity of disease, whatever about its increased transmissibility. If that’s not a sign of hope I don’t know what is.

Separately but also COVID related, a family member send me a gem that “delta omicron” is an anagram of “media control”. I’m not completely sure if said family member found this information as hilarious as I did, as said family member has refused to be vaccinated so there’s definitely a bit of conspiracy thinking going on. But one does have to laugh nonetheless, I mean “media control”, what a ridiculous coincidence and also who the actual fuck spotted the anagram??? Anyway, the sign of hope bit, don’t fret it comrades, the COVID pandemic is just a play by Big Government and Big Pharma, there’s no risk to life after all…crazy stuff!

omicron is also an anagram of moronic – another gem on Twitter from the anti vax brigade.
An anti vaxxer where I work had the pandemic being a big play by Big Pharma and Undertakers – as you say crazy stuff.

The joke – and it was a joke – I saw was that there’s a new variant called Omicron B. Which is an anagram of No Crimbo.
