Signs of Hope – A continuing series May 13, 2022

Gewerkschaftler suggested this recently:
I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.
Any contributions this week?
A center-left government is in the late stages of being formed in Slovenia. I know ‘center-left’ may not be everyone’s cup of tea but two things that are especially good is that first of all it is ousting one of the most right-wing European leaders (although one that got less press than Orban or PiS) Janez Jansa. The other positive fact is that despite somewhat disappointing electoral results, there will be a strong place in the government for the Slovenian Left party which will get the ministries of Labor, Social Affairs, Culture and Family and IIRC responsibility for housing.

Only noticed today that Conor Rafferty ,ex National party and now standing for something called “Resume” polled the grand total of 13 votes in my Mid Ulster constituency! Apparently he has been involved in far right politics and their various fronts for years.

Resume. That’s an odd name.
