I realise the whinging of the occasionally returning emigrant can be annoying, but….I’m back in Dublin for the second time in a week unexpectedly for a family funeral, but I want to rant about traffic and transport. Took a 41 in from the airport, planning to take a DART to Sandymount, where the funeral mass was. An hour after getting on the bus we’re still in Drumcondra, so I get off and walk along the canal, over the new pedestrian/ cycle bridge at North Strand (and lovely it is), across Beckett bridge and on to R’end, Irishtown. I passed the bus corridor on N. Strand road, the Maynooth railway line to Docklands, the Luas and saw the Dart in the distance. Dublin actually has quite a lot of public transport options, and the infrastructure is developing, with bus corridors and bike lanes, but as long as you can count 30 cars with single occupants along a stretch of Spencer Dock, nothing can change. Heading back N’side afterwards, and Doyles corner is a mess, and again, lost count of the number of single occupant cars. Congestion charge now, sez I.

+1 Traffic is an absolute mess. North Strand is out of action, the rest of the city is snarled up. My sympathies for anyone who lives any distance out or is in a position where due to age, children ore whatever they have to make long difficult journeys.

I can’t view this site when I’m using the wifi connection on the latest Dublin Bus buses. I assume is wordpress that is blocked rather than CLR specifically.

Just watching the Al Jazeera report on The Labour Files. It’s bad enough that the Tories fear and despise ordinary working class people: but it seems as if the Labour party do too.

Waiting at the bus stop in Belfast this afternoon, I did a back of the envelope calculation: 1.4% of the population of the North is a student at Queens.

That’s some reach for one institution.

I’ve seen that, it’s delightful. Various other episodes of the TV programme (it was one of those 5 minute things that gets inserted between shows) are on YouTube – the programme was called On The Air – Gerry Anderson.

Me neither, but this is deeply serious for GB. What’s stunning is the sense they (the govt) don’t care – though unless they’re insane they have to be shook by the pound crashing like this. I was wondering is this the right wing equivalent of capital flight in the event radical left govts take over?

I doubt if those letters are going in yet, but worth remembering, Truss is in a similar position vis a vis her parliamentary party as Corbyn was with his – most of them didn’t vote for her.

One would almost imagine the antipathy is greater – given the Tories are in government and she very deliberately cut out those who did not support her from almost all office. Corbyn most certainly didn’t do the same (didn’t much help him unfortunately). But just on that, there was an excellent Guardian podcast this weekend on how Corbyn must feel vindicated now that Truss appears to have found the so-called ‘magic money tree’. So much for government debt.
