Why is the May Day march not on the nearesr Sat to May Day ?
Why is the ICTU having a May Day Concert on the Friday 1st May ?
Why are they charging €25 admission ?

Why are the ICTU bottle-jobs? Why are rank and file bus workers demonised? Whay are union officials on three times the money of those they represent? Why are they on the boards of companies?
So many questions…(Brecht)

Same up here in the North. The NIPSA mailing only went out Thursday afternoon for May Day this Saturday. Prior to this NI-ICTU had not confirmed when it would be. Pathetic, even more so considering the epic incomes. A little less conferencing in England and a bit more working for their members would go a long way. UNISON’s regional organizer was recently advertised for 37,000 odd plus expenses. Speaking from experience, UNISON in my local branch couldn’t organize a piss up in a brewery, and like NIPSA, at least locally, have time and again let down their members who are more militant that they are – and they’re not exactly asking for NIPSA to put up the barricades.
I’m no ultraleftist, but the major reason is that ordinary members and workers do not participate in what democratic structures there are to hold the Union administration to account, much like participation in society as a whole at this time. We need to reclaim them from the ground up with a co-ordinated strategy of participating in our Unions and bringing them activitely back into the workplace., those at the top are far too comfortable, and the Union has become too much like other ‘NGO’s’ who are essentially now part of the state.
