I love this Labour Ad from the General Election and of course with the budget approaching it’s being dug up regularly.
From the various kites flown and decisions announced, the top 3 items here of The increase in motor tax, increase in VAT and water charges are being brought in.
There may well be a cut in child benefit as that has been mentioned and possibly even an increase in DIRT tax…
Hopefully Labour will make a stand and stop the increase in wine prices.

Nulty seems to be working himself up to taking a stand:
“Government must address concerns raised by Tommy Broughan T.D.
Tommy Broughan is a long standing Labour member, activist and public representative and his decision to break the party whip should be taken very seriously by the party leadership and Labour Ministers in government. It is essential the failed politics of the previous government are ended. The budget which will be announced next week must ensure that the downward spiral of cuts that target people on low and average incomes is stopped. Instead the Government must target wealth.
The figures released this week from the Central Statistics Office which show that almost 23% of the population cannot afford some of the most basic necessities, such as food, heat and clothes are deeply worrying. VAT increases and household charges will only make this situation worse. Such measures will not grow our economy, will not create jobs, and will not increase living standards – and, therefore ultimately will not increase the tax take and allow for the repair our broken public finances.
There is an alternative. A number of organisations such as the independent think-tank TASC, Social Justice Ireland and trade unions have put forward well-researched and well thought-out proposals that would be far more effective in promoting growth and reducing the deficit. These three organisations propose a series of measures that can raise billions from the wealthy. Irish concentration of wealth is one of the highest in the EU-15. 28% of all wealth – housing and financial wealth – is owned by the top 1% of adults. In the interests of fairness and economic recovery I am calling on the government to revise their plans and instead introduce tax increases for high income groups in the forthcoming budget.”

He has already voted to prevent a detailed debate on the payment of monies to bondholders and, it seems, to prolong the bank guarantee. His actions are of rather more inherent interest than his words.
It will be interesting to see how he votes on the budget.

Paul, I just posted up the link, I’m not saying I think Nulty is being honourable or anything. Empty rhetoric from Nulty or anyone else in Labour is just hot air, what is needed is walk not talk. If they’re serious about opposing austerity they should resign from Labour and join the Dail Technical Group as independents, or join another political party, in my opinion.

There was an intesresting clip on Good morning this am whereby the reporter mentioned that in the US EACH STATE HAS ITS OWN SPERATE TAX SYSTEM.,
