1989 Revisited: 9th November, East Germans allowed to enter West Berlin from East Berlin November 9, 2019

East German authorities eventually caved in to public pressure by allowing East German citizens to enter West Berlin and West Germany directly, via existing border points, on 9 November 1989.
This appears almost to have been happenstance, when DDR spokesperson Günter Schabowski stated that planned changes would ‘take effect immediately, without delay’. No force is used by DDR guards. This marks the effective fall of the Berlin Wall.

Interesting interview, though he does swerve away from some of the implications of what he seeks to defend. For example, there was most certainly a shoot policy in relation to the Wall and borders there.
