And those elections are over! June 14, 2024

Took a while, think that time was worth it.
The ‘traditional’ parties consolidated, Sinn Féin improved but also fell back. Two SF TDs and one left Independent. The results for the left (if we apply that term very generously) were not great. Looking back at election results that’s been true for many years, but still.
Fifteen years after the crash and what’s going on when we’ve Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil in government and they’re the ones who can walk away from this feeling most satisfied?
In not sure that all of the time it took was worth it. The scale of the task means that extra counting staff could have been hired to distribute votes from eliminated candidates and to sort the surpluses, and get the overall job done a lot earlier. Tasks that couldn’t have been shortened were the calculations at each stage and dealing with the doubtful votes at the very start, but so much more could have been done more quickly with extra staff.

That’s fair. So your feeling is more resources, quicker count. No complaint from me. But I’m glad it was done well.
