Labour unlikely to stand Longford by-election candidate

As mentioned by Paddy M in a comment

This, by the way, is a constituency where Labour got 15,000 first preferences in 2011.

The report also mentions that

Labour faced a similar scenario in the Dublin West by-election, which is taking place on the same day. A number of local councillors decided against competing for the Dáil seat

Newly elected Party Chairperson Loraine Mulligan is standing for the party in Dublin West. According to her leaflet when running for Chairperson of the party she is a member of the Dundrum, Dublin South Branch of the Party.

Sacrificial lamb found.

As well as having 15,000 Labour first preferences last time (although 3,500 of those were for Mae Sexton and won’t be back), LD-WH apparently has the third largest Labour membership after Dublin South East and Dún Laoghaire.

I see Fine Gael have selected Eamonn Coughlan in Dublin West.
