Speaking of Senators… May 2, 2016

…reports on Friday that Gerard Craughwell had ‘left’ the Independent Alliance.
But Mr Craughwell quit the alliance after it became apparent in his view that his involvement in the talks wasn’t being sought.
He had been particularly keen to ensure the issue of Seanad reform was on the agenda with Fine Gael negotiators.
Mr Craughwell confirmed his departure from the group when contacted by Independent.ie today.
Independent TD Denis Naughten insisted that there “could have been a Government six weeks ago if Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil hadn’t set down redlines.”
Naughten, Michael Harty, Mattie McGrath and Noel Grealish were joined by Senators Gerard Craughwell and Victor Boyhan as they met with Fine Gael late yesterday evening.
The IA’s loss is the rural Independents gain, clearly.
STOP PRESS!!!!
Seanator Craughwell (Dun Laoire) has now joined Mattie McGrath, “boxer” Moran et al. in the “Rural Five” in talks on government formation!!!
Will he soon take to wearing a cap????
Does he want to be Cathaoirleach of the Seanad?

Ould Gerry is an ambitious man – he is definitely after the mercs and perks.

he said in the Daily Mail that after he got re-elected he asked Independent Alliance to become involved in the government talks and they just never got back to him!

I was looking through the list of Dail 31 FF TDs who went for election to Dail 32 and who didn’t get elected (who would have neck to allow themselves be appointed by Kenny?) there’s actually only one Colm Keaveney http://www.oireachtas.ie/members-hist/default.asp?housetype=0&HouseNum=31&PartyID=41
