Luxembourg and Ireland have GDPs that are way out of kilter with the measure of actual individual consumption compared with every other EU country.
Liike, way out.

The kids should sing “Good Morning Britain” by Aztec Camera instead. The opposite of everything Bojo stands for:

F**k me, I never associated that song with Aztec Camera. i would have sworn it was just Big Audio Dynamite. Too many disco biscuits during the 90’s.

Do y’all remember when the internet was supposed to make everyone better informed and spread tolerance and understanding? I was just searching for some demographic info on NI and came across a site called ‘World Atlas’ and this pearl:

A warning :
Sinn Féin walks another step down a sticky partitionist path –
“All Sinn Féin TDs left the chamber last night instead of staying to vote against the juryless Special Criminal Court.
A terrible decision to abandon their opposition after some pressure from FF/FG.” – Paul Murphy TD.
It seems not all of the SF deputies left the chamber – 8 of them abstained on a vote to abolish the juryless Special Criminal Court.
Newstalk Report :
In the end, just seven TDs – five from Solidarity / People Before Profit and two independents – voted against the proposals, while Social Democrats abstained.
The Sinn Féin decision drew criticism from the opposition and Government parties.
PBP TD Paul Murphy said it was a “terrible decision [for Sinn Féin] to abandon their opposition” to the court. https://www.newstalk.com/news/sinn-fein-tds-walk-out-of-dail-ahead-of-vote-on-special-criminal-court-1215338

SF alone would be subject to an onslaught that would include bringing journalists onto the Late Late on the eve of an election to state that the drug gangs were delighted with SF .This tactic worked previously and sometimes you are better to pick which issues to gift your mortal enemies with.

The most invidious form of ‘house-training’ in itself.

Yes, both Sinn Fein and the Greens have previously opposed the permanent extension of emergency powers, the basis of the Special Criminal Court. Both came under pressure to change their stances and both buckled.
It is unfortunately typical of Irish politics that our liberals, Labour, the Soc Dems and the Greens, are so useless that they can’t be relied on to support basic liberal principles like the right to a jury trial. And you can’t rely on the political wing of the movement that draconian special powers were introduced to suppress, Sinn Fein, to oppose those powers in the face of the terrible threat of crime correspondents saying mean things about them on the TV. What a foretaste of how they’ll stand up to pressure from the establishment over things like property rights, rents and housing once in government.
There are seven socialists in the Dail, and those seven are the only TDs who can be relied on to defend basic civil liberties. I’ve heard it said as a joke before but Gino Kenny really is the strongest remaining civil libertarian in Irish politics.

That bastard Wiliams was brought onto the most watched TV show on Irish television the weekend before an election to damage SF and it succeeded.PBP can say what they like about any issue and nobody even notices.Entire newspaper groups and broadcasting organisations are devoted to bringing SF and SF alone down.Every word and action is seized upon and twisted to show SF in a worst possible light and were they to make the SCC an issue to die on,they would be giving the enemy the ground to fight on of their choosing.

I’m beginning to think it’s a cunning plan to make SF seem dangerous and alluring to the impressionable young so that they’ll vote for the appearance of radicalism rather than the real thing.

Show me any grouping that has endured what SF has endured at the hands of the Independent group or indeed RTE.They regard the “real thing” as you describe it as a total irrelevance.

The BLP at the hands of the Sun and the BBC? And not just under Corbyn. Brown and Miliband were monstered too, and neither were ever going to radically uncouple the British state from neolib austerity.
Just because the Indo present SF as a radical threat doesn’t mean they are, or that the Indo and RTE even think so. They just want their mates to hold onto their seats.

Slight rant coming up….
I see Henry Kissinger’s deferential interviewer, Ronan Farrow, has a heavily hyped show on HBO, which will presumably soon be broadcast on this side of the Atlantic. Farrow’s “Catch and Kill: The Podcast Tapes”, will feature Farrow discussing sexual abusers in Hollywood such as the now-jailed Harvey Weinstein.
Strangely, Farrow himself has a connection with a Hollywood sexual abuser on the maternal side of his family.
In 2012, Ronan’s uncle, John Charles Villiers Farrow (AKA
John Charles Farrow AKA Johnny Farrow ) a businessman and former Hollywood actor, was arrested. In October 2013 Villiers-Farrow was sentenced by a Maryland court to 10 years in prison, for sexually abusing two unfortunate very young boys.
https://www.upi.com/Entertainment_News/TV/2013/10/29/Mia-Farrows-brother-is-sentenced-to-10-years-in-prison/74911383052013/
Mia Farrow and Ronan Farrow, in the 9 years since their relative was arrested, have never made any public statement condemning their relative’s crimes, nor expressing even the mildest sympathy for their relative’s victims. It seems UNICEF Ambassador Mia isn’t bothered by the suffering of these particular children at the hands of her brother.

Now, here’s where a disturbing story gets even more disturbing.
Farrow was close to her brother John – he was with her on the famous Beatles excursion to India.

In the 1970s, Mia Farrow kept a residence in a house in Martha’s Vineyard ,with her children from her marriage with André Previn.
In an interview with the “New York Times” in October 1971, Farrow said
“I still have property on Martha’s Vineyard. My brother Johnny’s there right now, living in a camper, becoming a writer.”
On January 16, 1976 a US newspaper with the unwieldy title of the “Fort Walton Beach Playground Daily News” did a profile of the Farrow family.
“John, 28, is a writer, living in Martha’s Vineyard. Stephanie, 25. is a model and student in New York. Their mother, Maureen O’Sullivan, brought her Irish and English values to her own family in Hollywood and Beverly Hills.”
https://newspaperarchive.com/fort-walton-beach-playground-daily-news-jan-16-1976-p-8/
Think about that for a moment. The older siblings of Ronan Farrow grew up in the company of a relative later imprisoned for sexually abusing children. Not a squeak from Ronan about this.
Isn’t it time someone in the legacy media did an investigation into Ronan Farrow’s uncle John?

Tangled tangled web. It always strikes me as – fairly or unfairly – a sort of upper class/cultural class internecine war in relation to the Farrows and Allan and there’s something unlovely about the whole thing. I think I’ve said before I’m no great fan of Allan’s (as a person) but he’s had the good sense to largely stay out of the fray.

Just so I can say I told you so, I think Galloway will beat Labour, and the Tories will win, in the Batley and Spen by-election. What a bunch of opportunistic rogues all round.
Can’t see any pluses other than it might topple Starmer.

There were those in the British command who wanted to use their aircraft as a weapon of terror in attacks on rallies and vigils, same as was visited on ‘the natives’ in other parts of the Empire at the time.

I could have got her at 3/1 but did’nt bite because I saw DBS as too posh also.I have mixed feelings. Boylan hitting 25% would be an excellent result for me.A win would be a big ask and while it would be earth shattering ,it could have it’s downside.A middle class “protest” vote on housing would be just that.A lot of that demographic would oppose much of the rest of SF’s programme and the danger is SF could attempt to hold onto that vote by ditching policies which are the correct ones.On the whole I would prefer a big vote increase but one that could be held onto in the next GeneralElection without pandering to middle class whims.
