Some won’t like the content of the Taoiseach’s statement on the recognition of the State of Palestine, drawing a comparison with Ireland in 1919 asking the world’s states to recognise us.

That’s true, but… but… at this point in time when Palestine is in such a grievous situation perhaps the recognition by three other states is actually in terms of soft power possessing some significant symbolic utility in terms of pressurising the Israeli state along with other elements like the ICC and so on? At a minimum it adds to the voices calling for ceasefire.

Another parallel from 1919 are all those upright moral Western powers, who had been so eager at Versailles to dismember the Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman Empires in service of the ‘rights of small nations’, firmly turning away Dáil Éireann representatives who called at their doors looking for equal rights.

It’s an established fact that Tory b€%*7rd Rishi Sunak is a fan of Southampton FC.
In light of this shameful fact, CRC CCC held a meeting last night to discuss the issue of the game on Sunday, Southampton vs Leeds.
The outcome of the meeting was a fatwah to all CLR collective members. Any member found to be not putting their full and unequivocal, public support behind Leeds United on Sunday will be immediately banished to sit in the bold corner beside Clare Daly.

If that’s addressed to me, don’t worry: I’ve softened considerably. ALAW.

The fatwah applies to all CLRers.
LUFC to give a hiding to Sunak on Sunday. The whole of the UK to follow suit on July 4th.

This couldn’t have happened to a more deserving crook:
Arizona’s Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes on Friday announced that Rudy Giuliani had been served with the notice of his indictment on charges related to a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election results in Arizona.
The announcement came less than two hours after Giuliani taunted Mayes for failing to deliver his indictment in a social media post. The notice was served to Giuliani during his 80th birthday celebration in Palm Beach, Florida.

Someone has gone to the trouble of hiring a fuck off PA to blast ‘Things can only Get Better’ as close as they can get to Downing Street.

As Sunak is drenched in the rain that has been general all over England today. Pathetic fallacy etc.

This from John Cunningham on Facebook:
“So: we’re having a DUBLIN launch of our book next Wednesday (29th) at 6 pm in Books Upstairs. Mary Muldowney is doing the honours. Terry will say a few words while I will conduct a short ‘conversation’ with three of the contributors: Brian Hanley, Theresa Moriarty and Gerry Watts. (And the wine will be organic!)
It would be nice to catch up with Dublin-based friends there.”

Got in two bits of interesting election literature yesterday.
The first from the hand of SF’s Natalie Tracey herself, handing out things with her team at Pelletstown train station. Very professional and slick operation: a fold-out leaflet, with four pages for Tracey as the local candidate, one for Lynn Boylan and one for McDonald to give the usual message (most of it very agreeable stuff, though the dog-whistle “sensible immigration” sticks in the craw). Miles ahead of anything else I’ve gotten.
Then Robin Cafolla of Rabharta. I haven’t heard much from them recently, and was surprised to see the extent of what he was pitching, little less than worker’s revolution. I wish they’d get some traction as a green party as opposed to the capital G equivalent.

Suddenly realised that the British election will be held during the EUROs. Was that in Sunak’s thinking? Team doing well=people happy=vote for government? All going as expected to that point England will be playing a Second Round game a few days before then Quarter-Final two days after.

Football fever featured in LBC radio host James O’Brien trying to fathom Sunak’s thinking and that “we” could be doing well.
Of course, the “we” in the station claiming to be “Leading Britain’s Conversation” was England and not Scotland. 😬 🏴

Tom Healy, previously director of the Nevin Economic Research Institute, had been announced in November as an Aontú candidate in Castlecomer in the local elections, but his name is not on the list of candidates there or for any LEA in Kilkenny.

How far out from polling day should a candidate put to their booster posters?

I’d say put them up about now. Just a week and a half to go.

I see a few from Regina Doherty already. It struck me as a little early. I would have said last five or six days would be best?

Seen some from Daly and from Bríd Smith too. Smith’s had messages – Isolate Israel and something about neutrality.
