Gewerkschaftler suggested this recently:

I suggest this blog should have a regular (weekly) slot where people can post happenings at the personal or political level that gives them hope that we’re perhaps not going to hell in a handbasket as quickly as we thought. Or as the phlegmatic Germans put it “hope dies last”.

Any contributions this week?

Looks like the consequence of DUP’s collapsing Stormont is to be the introduction of same-sex marriage and legalised abortion in the North.

Right where it hurts their fundamentalist-Calvinist convictions most.

From our neighbour:
(1) They’ve put a homosexual on a bank note

(2)
This has prompted a wonderful suggestion about a new meaning for “ATM”

Every time I do the layout for Interface I feel really heartened just to see the extraordinary activism that people engage in under the most difficult of circumstances – the Syrian civil war, violence between drug dealers and the military in Juarez, the Niger Delta, or whatever.

We’ve just brought out the new issue – it’s an activist/academic journal from and for social movements, online and free, at http://interfacejournal.net. Articles this issue from Australia, Catalunya, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, Palestine, SANES (the Self-Administration of North and East Syria), South Africa, Spain, the UK and the US.

Plus my personal appreciation of the late great Colin Barker for those who knew him.

The fact that the union-funded Nevin Institute’s views and assessments are reported on as important news by the likes of RTÉ and the Irish Times. It’s hardly revolutionary, but it is great to have some regular alternative to the ESRI and Ibec’s prescriptions being reported on.

Now to get them on the airwaves on Saturday and Sunday mornings to counteract the ‘business’ shows.
