Many thanks to Éirígí Activist for forwarding these materials to the Archive. They join other materials from Éirígí here in the Archive. For election materials from Éirígí here is a broad selection at Irish Election Literature. This is a selection of new materials which we will be posting up in the months to come.

This selection is of materials issued by the party during the Thirty-sixth amendment of the Constitution of Ireland to repeal the Eighth Amendment and the then prohibition on abortion. As with most posters and leaflets produced by Éirígí they are visually very clear and crisp with a strong visual identity. Notable are the Irish language posters.

Since we’ve added a few Repeal materials recently (and the collection was put together before the referendum originally) I’ve updated the Abortion and Reproductive Rights collection in the archive: https://www.leftarchive.ie/collection/2041/

That word ginmhilleadh. Its the Irish for abortion. Must check its history as an Irish word. Milleadh means destruction. Gin I think means … gene or creation….I’ll have to look it up.
But anyway I’d be surprised if this hasn’t been discussed somewhere in the Gaeilgeverse….that word ginmhilleadh, should it be replaced with a less loaded term?

Yep. Gin has many meanings including procreated being; child.
So ginmhilleadh is definitely a loaded term. Or is it?
