This brief letter from People’s Democracy from the early 1980s argues that:

Over the last S years wage increases have dropped substantially behind price increases so that it has been estimated that living standards have declined by a third. The trade union leadership through their support for national understandings
have led us into this situation whereby the working people of this country carried the burden of the present economic crisis. At the same time the real culprits, the 5% who own and control the nations wealth have got off scot free.

The so called labour leaders (Labour Party, the ‘Workers Party’, Jim Kenny) in Dáil Eireann have also been silent and have continuously supported anti-working class measures in the
numerous budgets.

It exhorts people to attend a public meeting.
